Lathem, NY Ford dealer must not like the 47 percent

Not working because you were injured on the job? You must be one of those 47% mouchers, eh?

Lathem Ford in New York has a sales manager, Tom Selkis, whose car salesmen are some kind of talented medical doctors, apparently. They can tell whether or not their customers are qualified for SSI. Isn't that special?

From Facebook:

A Ford Dealer's Report
From Tom Selkis' (Latham Ford) Facebook.......... True story yesterday at the dealership.....
"I'll try to make this as short and to the point as I can. One of my
salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to lease a brand new Focus. As he was reviewing her credit app with her he noticed she was on social security disability. He said to her you don't look like you're disabled and unable to work. She said well I'm really not, I could work if I wanted to but I make more now than I did when I was working and got hurt (non-disabling injury)....

She said the gov't sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check, she gets $700.00 a month on an EBT card (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for rent.

Oh yeah and 250 minutes free on her phone.

That is just south of $3500.00 a month.

When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math and then ask yourself why the hell should she go back to work. If you multiply that by millions of people you start to realize the scope of the problem we face as a country. Once the socialist have 51% of the population in that same scenario we are finished. The question is when do we cross that threshold if we haven't already, and there are not enough people working to pay enough taxes to support thenon-working people? Riots?? Be prepared to protect your homes. She didn't lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat our deal by $10.00/month. Glad to know she is so frugal with her hard earned money."
Yeah. Don't buy your car from that guy.

  1. Odd. I just read that story and see someone who is stealing from hardworking taxpayers and you see someone the public should not buy a car from. She admitted she is not disabled and able to go back to work.

  2. Doesn't surprise me, Social Security Disability is the new "Welfare".
All you need is a Lawyer and know how to "work" the system.

  3. I say "only buy a car from that guy"!

If this story fired you up then you either missed the point or you are part of the problem (by your general demeanor I would guess, Both!)

  6. I'm starting to smell some BS here even before the sun beats down on it - can you really imagine a car salesman who wants to make money on a car sale telling the customer she looks like she ought to be able to work? C'mon people, use a little common sense. I actually know someone that became disabled and applied to SSD, and it's an incredibly long and difficult process that makes it practically impossible to fake an injury and SSD doesn't pay nearly what this story says. If you want to get mad at freeloaders, get mad at congressmen that give the Pentagon more than they asked for - one act of corporate wefare is a lot more money than all the SSD frauds.

  8. Why I check out facts before I believe internet anecdotes.

The amount of money that a New York food stamp receipt is eligible for depends on household size. For one person, the maximum benefits come to $200 a month. Maybe she has a family?

250 minutes free on her phone? No, she gets
60 minutes on a free simple phone provided by a non-govt private program started in 2008.

§ "When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math."
OK, here’s the real math. If she was making $1320 per month working no way in hell is she getting $1500 per month on disability ESPECIALLY if she’s also getting SNAP AND housing assistance. Benefits are coordinated. If you are not disabled and certifiably Unable to work you do not get SSI disability . If you collect SSI and work for cash —— people get fines and jail terms for that; it’s fraud.

So, what the real deal is, is that either the woman is lying on her lease application or she lied in her assistance applications (and is subject to prosecution for fraud, either way!) —OR— Mr. Selkis is lying in his facebook post.
